Well put — and for the scores of fans who agree it is the best thing on TV right now — this only gives the show a poignant sense of impending doom appropriate to the show’s dilemmas. It’s as if every renew discussion begins with the knowledge that the USSR will have to fall, we just don’t know what year it is.
