I think the one assumption that could derail the whole argument is the GM having a goal of winning a championship, or else rebuilding. At the end of the day, the Raps ownership group is perfectly happy fielding a “Treadmill playoff team” year after year, because they know that the fan base is so rabid and so loyal, that ticket and merchandise sales are always going to be high as long as this team is making the playoffs. Whether or not Ujiri has a “Championship or bust” mentality, I don’t think he would get the buy in from the owners to blow up the current roster and rebuild. This MLSE group has shown this lack of forward thinking and “$$$ over everything” mentality too many times in the past 15 years with the Maple Leafs.
