RV happy yet? Cutting the cord
Our choice to live a small purposeful life was becoming a dream come true. We were down to keepsakes, photos and heirlooms. Just stuff was easy to sell or donate but we were down to the nitty gritty now. This part of minimalism required soul searching and creative thinking.
We discovered in this part of the journey that many of the keepsakes we collected related to heartfelt memories we could recount any time we desired. Some of our small sparkling bobbles had not been looked at in 20 or 30 years. We came to realized we had lived these experiences throughout our lives together and these true treasures we carried in our hearts.
Photos now, this was a chore. We had duplicates and some photos that were not worth the space they took up. Then there were the truly precious ones that needed a home. So it was time to use our extremely expensive phones and put them to work. We took pictures of our favorite pictures and there you have it, another task accomplished.
Heirlooms, here is where it gets tricky. These are the items that have been packed up and will probably never get looked at until the day you die. Packing up the small items wasn’t hard but there were a few items that were challenging. My wedding dress was donated and hopefully some girl out there somewhere is experiencing the same amazing joy I did, what better thought than it just sitting in a box. My grand mother’s quilts were shared with a museum and oh, how so very happy the museum was to have them. My grandmother loved showing off her quilts and now they are on permanent display. Just a few more interesting items to go and we asked the kids if they wanted to take over the heirloom department and they said yes.
Taking a big cleansing breath, we were now down to five large plastic tubs that needed to be stored. Our mother said she would be glad to put them in the attic. We dusted off our hands and felt lighter than a feather. This whole process was so freeing, we recommend that everyone minimize to some extent. You will be glad you did.
