God Does Everything

Psalms 18:30–36 “God — His way is perfect; the word of the Lord is pure. He is a shield to all who take refuge in him. For who is God besides the Lord? And who is a rock? Only our God. God — he clothes me with strength and makes my way perfect. He makes my feet like the feet of a deer and sets me securely on the heights. He trains my hands for war; my arms can bend a bow of bronze. You have given me the shield of your salvation; your right hand upholds me, and your humility exalts me. You make a spacious place beneath me for my steps, and my ankles do not give way.”

Over the past few weeks I have felt very discouraged. In moments of discouragement, what is it that we seem to always do? We question things and wonder what we need to do to feel encouraged again. What do I need to do? Why am I so discouraged? It is almost as if we think sometimes we can fix it by doing enough. The enemy is powerful and he wants to destroy you and I. We cannot defeat him and his lies on our own. We will lose every time.

As I read this psalm over and over again, I realized I was doing it all wrong. God does everything. When we call on Him and submit to Him, He becomes our refuge. He clothes us with strength. He makes our way perfect. When we lay it all before Him, He makes our feet like the feet of a deer and sets us securely on the heights, even when we feel so low. He trains our hands for war, the battle with the devil. He is our strength in the battle. He gives us a shield of salvation and faith. His right hand upholds us. He sets a spacious place beneath our feet so that when we are trembling, we will not fall. God does everything. All that we need to do is take refuge in our gracious Father.

When we turn to Him, He will always embrace us. Psalms 9:9–10 “The Lord will also be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble. And those who know your name will put their trust in You; for You, Lord, have not forsaken those who seek You.”

Simply take refuge in the Lord and He will not forsake you. Trust in Him with it all and He will embrace you and give you strength. Read the passage above over and over again and know deep inside of you that that is your Father and that He will embrace you every time you come to Him. “The sacrifice pleasing to God is a broken spirit. You will not despise a broken and humbled heart, God.” Psalms 51:17 He cannot and will not reject a broken and discouraged person who comes to Him.
