Only Christ
Being presented blameless before God
Colossians 1:21–23 “Once you were alienated and hostile in your minds expressed in your evil actions. But now he has reconciled you by his physical body through his death, to present you holy, faultless, and blameless before him if indeed you remain grounded and steadfast in the faith; and are not shifted away from the hope of the gospel that you heard.”
When I read this passage in Colossians, I almost can’t fathom being presented as blameless before God with all the sin and failure in my life. A lot of days we get the mindset of doing a lot of good for God to be pleased with us. Other days we feel guilty and shameful because we have rebelled much against God in our life. It is almost hard to believe the Gospel at times and we have to preach it to ourselves when the enemy makes us feel that way. When I read that passage this morning I was overwhelmed with God’s great mercy towards me through Jesus Christ. He is the only way I can be presented as holy and blameless before God. When I cast my trust and faith onto Jesus, I am considered righteous, even though I am a great sinner. What a beautiful encouragement.
I hope as you are going about your day and taking time to read this that you are encouraged and reminded in what was done for us out of great love. That no matter the sin or failure, if you would only put trust, faith, and confidence in Jesus, you are blameless and no matter what the devil tells you, it is truth and reality. The devil wants to make you feel useless and ashamed, but Jesus Christ paid a price to make you stand blameless before God almighty. In our own strength we would fall down trembling before Him, but in Christ we can stand boldly when we meet Him. Take courage in that. “So when the devil throws your sins in your face and declares that you deserve death and hell, tell him this: “I admit that I deserve death and hell, what of it? For I know One who suffered and made satisfaction on my behalf. His name is Jesus Christ, Son of God, and where He is there I shall be also!” — Martin Luther. Let us be like Luther in telling the devil the truth when lies are thrown in our face.
“Now to Him who is able to protect you from stumbling and to make you stand in the presence of His glory, blameless and with great joy, to the only God our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, power, and authority before all time, now, and forever. Amen.” Jude 1:24–25
