Trouble and Mercy

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in him.” Lamentations 3:22–23

Every day has its own troubles and every day has new mercies. Every day we are tempted and tried, but everyday there is a new mercy from the Lord to help us through them. Every day there is a time of shame or guilt, but everyday there is a new mercy from the Lord to cover those lies from the enemy.

For every day that suffering fills our life, those same days there are new mercies that God lavishes us with. We would not make it in this life if we had to rely on past mercies. Although they are precious and life changing to us, we need Gods mercy daily, and He is so wonderful that He gives it to us every morning! He is faithful and you can be confident that if you wake up tomorrow, there will be extended to you new and beautiful mercies from the Lord.

In Christ, we can never be separated from God’s faithful love and mercy, therefore we can be confident and filled with hope and like the author of this passage exults God saying “The Lord is my portion.” We can be confident that when we wake up that we will have new mercy from the Lord himself to handle the days trouble, sin, and pain. We can be confident that if we are in Christ, we will never be separated from this reality.

Today, with enemy looking to devour you,(“Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” 1 Peter 5:8) lean into Gods mercy and who He is for you in Christ and put your hope in Him. His mercy is there and He freely pours it out, knowing you need it. Don’t be discouraged, but be encouraged by the mercies God is pouring out into your life today, and also be encouraged that new mercies will be there tomorrow so that tomorrows troubles can be taken head on. Go to Him every morning and receive them new and afresh.
