This article is really illuminating. I am from Venezuela but I live in NYC. I have given up trying to understand the political situation in my country from reading the news or following social media. Increasingly the headlines have become a realm of confusing assertions, contradictory data and denunciatory facts almost impossible to discern. That both the government and opposition manipulate the information to their advantage is something I have clear, but what this article makes me wonder is whether the lies and the confusion that lately has characterized Venezuela’s traffic of information may not be a product of an inefficient and disorganize strategy, but the contrary. An aggressive campaign of misinformation seems to be key in helping freeze people’s reaction to strenuous circumstances. A new kind of control…fascinating and very very scary!
