12 Irritating Men

I’ve watched “12 Angry Men” twice now, and both times I got so frustrated! First of all, I may be biased, but there should have been women in the mix. But of course, back in the day women were not on juries. Anyways, it was also kind of scary to think about how many juries have just made quick judgments on very serious matters. I was recently obsessed with the “Serial” podcast and it made me think about that jury, and what their decision making process was during Adnan’s trial.

People often associate the process of the Normative Model of decision making to be too calculated and only up-tight people use that process. However, this movie teaches us that it is so important to really think about things so you can discover your true feelings on the issue at hand, without too much outside influence. The men were in a hot and uncomfortable room which clearly influenced their decision making. I’ve never been on a jury before, but hopefully conditions are drastically different from what those men experienced to reduce conflict and negative Groupthink.
