Apple & The Forbidden Fruit
Steve Jobs gave the impression that Apple was an open company where every employee’s opinion was welcome and input was always taken into consideration. Kind of like an environment where everyone works together right? Well after watching the interview with former Apple employee, Adam Lashinsky, I was totally thrown off. Lashinsky talked about how closed the company was and how it was literally this super secretive operation. Apple is basically like the FBI. Maybe not that extreme, but definitely the opposite of what Jobs made things seem like. Each employee has a designated role and has no idea what other employee’s are working on. When a product is finally released, everyone is surprised. It almost makes me envision a bee hive.
So is this the secret to a successful company? Keeping everything hush-hush and eliminating multitasking? Do people want to just have designated tasks instead of offer opinions and share creativity? I’m not sure if I would personally like to work in a company like this, but Apple must be doing something right.
