Mindset Gems that Reduce Cognitive Bias

This made me think of how machine learning and machine intelligence, supposedly an ultimate form of data driven decision making, is actually a form of naturally biased decision making. Like the subject in the Francis Bacon, Plato inspired allegories, our new machine learning tools are biased by a lack of diversity in experience and single-minded evaluation of data based on narrow rules and narrow experiences. Sometimes this will be remedied with larger data sets but much as Google’s now famous vision experiment sees eyes in every image it evaluates, so to will other machines, like their creators, see what they are trained to look for.
