Diagnosis & Treatment Options for Managing Eczema Symptoms

Finding a solution for you

I can honestly say that severe atopic eczema is one of the most challenging conditions I have ever come across in my career. It is getting harder and harder to access a Dermatologist in the UK. Current emergency appointments are approximately 6 months waiting time and thats if you are lucky to find one that has any appointments available. Most people are forced into going private to access this profession.

Eczema is an inflammatory auto-immune condition that causes itchiness, dry skin, rashes, scaly patches, blisters and skin infections. There are several different types all managed differently. Atopic eczema is the one I will be discussing. Atopy is the genetic predisposition to develop an allergic reaction to an otherwise harmless environmental substance. More often than not this substance is unknown.

Clinicians often underestimate the effect it has on the patients welfare. Not only is it uncomfortable, irritating and sometimes even painful but it has a huge impact on patients social, professional (working life) and psychological wellbeing. I believe this is why it should be managed more holistically.

I will go on to discuss the different aspects of the disease and management options:
