When I was recovering from flaming out spectacularly, losing my day job, and landing in the hospital, I used to walk down Milwaukee Avenue to Gaslight Coffee Roasters to write about it all. I treasure those memories and did some of my favorite work there, after I gave up on success and rediscovered some joy in the work itself.

I hope you can go back there now without reliving the burnout.

I agree that severe cases of burnout require setting aside work commitments for as long as it takes. Do you have any advice on doing this when you’re worried about money (reasonably or un-)? Some of us can get by on less than we think, but it’s a real concern for the overworked and underpaid.

This is life-saving advice — thanks for putting it together.
