I’m leaving Blendle

And what’s next, sort of

After 2,5 years I will leave Blendle by the end of February. It’s been a crazy and adventurous ride. The company grew from 20 to 80 people and our service has over a million users.

It wasn’t always easy. But that’s when you know you’re growing. We always kept talking and improved our process and came out stronger than before.

Blendle is an awesome place to work at. I won’t say it’s perfect but they’re very close, and improving. I really liked the open and straight-forward culture.

I’m quite proud of what we achieved. I think we made one of the very best news apps. Sure, there’s still a lot that can be improved, like there has always been. But one day you have to let it go. I’m confident the team will do an incredible job.

So what’s next?

I have no idea. For now I’ll pick up freelancing and try to talk to as much interesting people and companies as I can.

I’ll try to find another great adventure. After 8 years of freelancing Blendle convinced me that working in a team is so much more fun.

If you know or are someone I should talk to let me know.

You can reach me on Twitter or e-mail.

This is the email I sent to my friends and colleagues

Homies,
After 2,5 years I will stop working at Blendle by the end of February. It has been an enormously difficult call!
When you work on one thing for so long it will feel like your baby. It’s hard to let it go, but someday you’ll need to.
It was the best thing in my life. Ok, that’s a bit too much, there have been tough periods as well. But I loved them too. We always kept talking and we got out stronger then ever before.
It’s incredible how little I knew when it was just me and Joost building the first Blendle app. I learned so much.
Last week I had a lot of conversations about Blendle’s next phase. With all the things I have already done here, I think it’s time for a new challenge.
I will mis all of you, well not all of you, I’m not naming names (Nick). Kidding. Although you might be very different people, you start to love the people you work so close with. At least, I did.
I’ll take a vacation and do some freelancing but will soon start looking for my next adventure. You guys absolutely convinced me working in a team is so much more fun!
I’m not sure what I’m looking for yet, but if you know cool people or companies I should meet let me know.
I hope our paths will cross again! Don’t hesitate to text or call me.
One clap, two clap, three clap, forty?

By clapping more or less, you can signal to us which stories really stand out.
