The Maastricht Treaty was an agreement signed by the members of the European Union in 1992 to create a single currency, the euro. The treaty also provided for the creation of a new European Union and included the creation of a common citizenship.

The Maastricht Treaty established the European Union and also referred to monetary union. It contributed to the introduction of what is now known as the euro currency in 1999.

The EU is a political and economic union of 28–1 member states founded on the principles of freedom, democracy, human rights and fundamental freedoms. The EU operates through a series of institutions based in Brussels, Belgium.

The Maastricht Treaty is an agreement signed on February 7, 1992. The treaty is a series of amendments to the Treaty of Rome. The treaty was created with the intention of creating a more united Europe and promoting economic and political integration.

The signing of this treaty led to many changes in the way Europe functions politically, socially, and economically.
