Phew… What an eventful year it’s been. In 2017, we’ve launched the KOMPAS app on iOS and Android, expanded to 6 cities, and grown our user base from zero to over 19,000.

Now, we’re excited to announce that we’ve just launched a crowdfunding campaign to raise £400,000. We couldn’t have made it this far without the support of our amazing users, who have cheered us on, sent us tips, and kept us grounded. We created KOMPAS because we knew there were more people like us, who wanted to find the most authentic, local, hidden-away places in whatever city they set foot in. The contribution of you, our users, is incredibly important to us, which is why we decided that crowdfunding would be a great way to open up the opportunity for our users to get involved with our mission.

On the business front, we’ve managed to generate close to £100,000 in revenue, and secured partnerships with Visa Inc and London Midland. We’ve received significant industry acclaim, including being named as one of the top 500 Deep-Tech companies in the world by HelloTomorrow and being accepted into Creative Destruction Labs, one of the world’s leading AI accelerators.

But this is only the beginning: we’ve been growing at close to 60% month-on-month, and are aiming to increase that in the New Year. We’ve just released version 2.5 of our app, with an easier to use explore feature. We want to take the disappointment, tourist traps and hours of painstaking research out of travel. No more spending hours on forums and flicking through guidebooks researching where to eat, drink, or party: the city’s secrets will reveal themselves with just one tap.

The money raised from our crowdfunding campaign will go towards making the KOMPAS app even better by refining our current features and adding new ones. We’ll also be expanding our community, and launching in more cities.
