“Story of My Life”

When I got into apps like “Group Me” and “Snap Chat,” it wasn't long until I encountered these curious funny things called memes. Memes are photos or animated GIFs that are usually accompanied by captions that act as punchlines. They can be considered a type of poetry in the internet age since they succinctly encapsulate many aspects of the human condition — or the situations we often find ourselves in and can therefore relate to. And when we can relate to a particular meme, we often drop a “SOMF” or “story of my life” comment. And it feels good to be able to say “SOMF.” Because amid all the confusion and loneliness, we find pleasure in knowing that someone out there gets it.
