API3 Operations Update: May 2022

Coming into summer, we are all thrilled to be getting closer to having live Beacons. While we always have ongoing matters we are attuned to, much of our focus has been to ensure a successful launch!

Beacons

In many ways, it feels we are seeing Beacons becoming more tangible. With the tech team getting closer to releasing the first stage of the functional product, the operations team is working through the processes that will allow a subscriber to access their Beacon before the release of a completely programmatic checkout flow. These relays will be in place and thoroughly tested over the summer to ensure a seamless experience from order submission to Beacon utilization. As previously reported, Brandon will be responsible for communications with the subscriber, but we will be enlisting the additional help of Laura and Greg to assist in the publication of subscription information to our IPFS. This is in efforts to get quicker turnaround in the early stages of availability as we begin to respond to our initial subscribers.

Community Moderation

As our online communities continue to grow, our marketing team has been working endlessly to ensure our communities remain a safe and open space to discuss the API3 project. With that has come some challenges in ensuring we have the capacity to both remove inappropriate posts and answer questions promptly to ensure active engagement. While the marketing team has historically taken on this community moderation role, it has been decided that the activity of keeping the channels clear of bots and scams and ensuring FAQs are answered promptly are more appropriately considered operational tasks than marketing tasks. To ensure we can maintain meaningful community engagement, the operations team has facilitated the processes for and will begin funding community policing and basic FAQ responses next cycle. This will allow our marketing team to more effectively focus on community growth and meaningful social engagements as well as be a more cost-effective solution to keep our online communities safe.

Ongoing Matters

  • When looking for API3 vertical updates in the future, keep an eye out in our Twitter feed as well as our forum, we will no longer be posting them to a dedicated API3 Medium page as we are hoping to spotlight more exciting content.
  • Negotiations with WorkDAO are still underway in efforts to ensure that the transition of US contributors are smooth for the contributors as well as cost effective for the foundation. We anticipate that these processes will be completed in the coming month.
  • Accounting practices are still being diligently ironed out while processes are being built out to ensure consistent reporting in the future. More details will be provided in the coming months as the reconciliation process for prior years is completed.
