If you think this sounds bad because it’s tech companies that need their bottled water, just look into the ambulance industry. I was an EMT-B in the Bay Area in 2008, and this is the only type of job that was available!
What is described here — as big promises, full-time positions, ended up being a farce. The company was ProTransport1, and as far as I know they operate on the East Bay. They were horrible and to this day I could never understand how they could legally operate ambulances on such a messed up schedule.
As an employee, you had to log in and grab whatever time was available, which could have been cut short or non-existant at any point in time and was up to the company’s discretion regarding how many ambulances they “needed” out at a particular time.
We also got paid less than these drivers — only $8 an hour. It was impossible to pay for the commute to work let alone rent, food, and other necessities.
