Pondering…

Been thinking a lot about love lately. The meaning of it, the definition in my own mind, trying to rationalize it in my own way.

What is love?

Is it a verb? Is it a noun? How do you know that what you feel for another person is love? Can you love something other than a person, like a pet or an inanimate object?

Is the world love thrown around too much and used too frequently? Has it lost its meaning?

A few thoughts…

Love shouldn’t be hard. You shouldn’t have to constantly fight for it. Every relationship will of course have ups and downs, but when the battle is constant, is it really love? Or is it habit?

Love should be kind and generous. If you truly love someone, that person’s well being should come before your own. Their happiness should matter most. If you love someone, selfishness should be at bay.

Love should be gentle. If you love someone, you shouldn’t fear them. You should believe that their main desire is to protect you, not to put you in situations where you are uncomfortable or fearful. You should never feel the need to self sacrifice for someone you love because, like stated above, love should be kind and generous. The person you love should love you in return in order for it to be truly love.

Love shouldn’t be convenient. You can’t love someone when it fits in your schedule, when it’s raining, when your friends are busy, when you need something. That’s not love. That’s convenience.
