I live far up north. It’s not just the lack of light. The day length changes *fast*. At the fastest it’s about 5 minutes a day. If you haven’t experienced it, it’s hard to understand the feeling. It creeps up on you before you even are aware.
It’s like an oppressive force slowly descending over everything and there is no escape. The sun doesn’t even come far above the horizon. Combined with many cloudy and rainy days, it’s even more oppressive.
When the days start lengthening again, you immediately begin to feel your spirits lift.
