Another great read. I relate to this, as a person in recovery from various 'addictions.' Kind of like depression, I think of it as an umbrella term with limited usefulness. Physiologically there are very real signs and symptoms of addiction, but most of it is mental/spiritual/emotional. For me, being in recovery isn’t about a substance or behavior, but about simply not being a dick. This requires taking responsibility for our human tendencies or fundamental flaws/fears/unmet needs. Three other major things out society struggles with also require us to take responsibility: Democracy: vote. Financial freedom: understand debt before borrowing money. Health: basic medical literacy and self-care, to arrest often-preventable instances (hyperlipidemia, periodontal disease, diabetes) and not be a cost to society…
