Chatterbox issue one: how to find your purpose to your niche

Finding your niche.

In a world of influencers, shiny objects and FOMO, it’s easy to be distracted, stray out of our lane, and fall into the mass market.

The problem with niching is that everybody thinks it needs to be defined by a market sector. However, a niche has to be unique, and nothing is more unique than you. It’s a mixology of your aspirations, strengths and knowledge.

A niche is a nonconformity.

It’s not rocket science; it is just a little soul-searching to identify,

  • Who do you want to be
  • How do you want to relate
  • How do you want to grow

One Action you can take:

Journal the following prompts to help you identify your aspirations. I recommend one hour to be 100% mindful of this task.

Who do you want to be

  • What are your characteristics?
  • What brings you joy and contentment?

How do you want to relate

  • How do you interact with different people?
  • Parents, Children, Coworkers, Associates, Friends, Partner
  • What impact do you want to make in the world?

How do you want to grow

  • How do you choose to give or be of service?
  • How do you want to improve your quality of life?

How I use my aspirations

I set my aspirations in 2020 without realising the impact and productivity they would have on my business and well-being.

If something didn’t align with my aspirations, it was a non-starter. I even used it as the criteria for taking on clients.

My aspirations, unknowingly at the time, became my navigation system. I frequent my aspirations for reference. They became my non-negotiables to the minimal essential requirement of any task, goal or decision.

It was a game-changer in my business as I learnt to say no to opportunities that didn’t align with my aspirations, but I also said yes to those that did, pushing me outside of my comfort zone.

Set Boundaries:

Your aspirations are values you hold dear to how you want to live your life. Boundaries help you stay focused and prevent you from being distracted and straying out of your lane.

Nonnegotiables:

The choices you make in life and business must comply with your aspirations. If you cannot tick every box, then ask yourself why I am doing it.

Internal Navigation System:

Only set SMART GOALS that align with your aspirations.
