As the Covid-19 situation continues and businesses plan and adapt working patterns HR and Business Leaders must ensure that mental wellbeing remains a high priority in their plans.

Leaders, HR and all levels of the business will need extra help, support and guidance on looking after themselves and being able to spot issues and support the workforce.

Some companies have plans in place for the return to office space, yet many UK companies are telling their workforce there is no intention of a return to offices until September 2020 or later, if at all. Whilst these are intended to be clear messages, it can still contribute to employee stress — and reinforces their fears about the future.

The impact of continued remote working, alongside additional pressure of a…

Improved resilience has many benefits for businesses and individuals.

Work-related stress, depression or anxiety were the reasons given for more than half of working days lost due to ill health last year, according to the latest government figures.

A new report from the Health and Safety Executive reveals work-related stress, depression or anxiety accounted for “44% of all work-related ill health cases and 54% of all working days lost due to ill health” in 2018/19. People reported the main factors contributing to this were “workload pressures, including tight deadlines and too much responsibility and a lack of managerial support”.

We live in a fast-paced world. We’re always switched on…

Small amounts of stress can be good for you, but at what point does it become a problem and do you know the signs?

Stress comes in all shapes and sizes. Stress can be defined as any type of change that causes physical, emotional or psychological strain. The term ‘stress’ refers to the response you have when facing circumstances that force you to act, change, or adjust in some way to maintain your footing, or to keep things balanced.

In small doses, these factors increase your strength and stamina, speed your reaction time, and enhance your focus. This is where some people will say stress is good for you! So, does stress affect your health?

Stress is a huge contributor to people needing time…

When a holiday just isn’t enough, maybe it’s time to get help

I’ve return from a fabulous holiday in Majorca. I think we all feel better after holidays but sometimes they’re just not quite enough are they! How many times have you been on holiday and taken the first 3,4,5 days to recover and wind down from work, then you get a few days of peace and relaxation or fun in the middle before you start winding up to return again? It’s common. …

When I adopted my girls around 11 years ago I thought I was just going to take 6 months off my corporate high level job until they settled in and went to school. The social workers told us these girls just needed firm boundaries and I thought,

I can do firm boundaries!

I’d spent years keeping the Directors and Senior Managers in line and on track with everything from business transformations to high level meetings. I thought firm boundaries meant that we I just needed to be clear on what were the rules and timeframes. How wrong I was!

The…

and how to fix that!

I’ve had some great coaching and I’ve also had an encounter that really didn’t pan out as I expected. When that happened I was pretty upset and confused. I took some time to regroup, to recover and then eventually was able to see what I could learn from it. So if this looks familiar to you, or you’ve had a bad coaching experience in the past, there’s no cause for alarm! We can spend some time resetting your relationship with coaching to get you back on track.

Understandably, it’s important for my clients and prospective clients to know that the…

Feeling overwhelmed is a negative spiral.

When overwhelm hits, you start to feel out of control, like there’s too much happening, then worry or panic sets in, which triggers more out of control feelings… and so on. Before long, you’re wondering if you can cope at all.

What you need is a toolkit for breaking that cycle, ideally before it’s taken firm hold — though you can use it wherever you are, whatever is going on around you. So here it is.

These are simple straightforward steps that you can start straightaway.

1. Breathe

Breathing is go-to advice from many coaches and wellness experts, I know. I’m not…

Sometimes it can feel like we just have to put up with the stress that goes with it.

I’m here to tell you that’s not the case. Whether you’re a business leader or entrepreneur, life can get stressful. More responsibility, more pressure, more exposure.

When you’re working at a senior level or you’re the CEO of your own show, you’ll have decisions to make, you’ll have a wide portfolio of responsibilities and the stakes will be higher for business.

As an entrepreneur, that business is all you, it’s probably your ‘other’ baby, it’s important to you and you too have big decisions make, busy workload, wide ranging responsibilities and the stakes are high for your success.

But that…

Apparently Blue Monday is the most depressing day of the year. It was given the title for a few reasons. This is the time our credit card bills come in and we realise how much we spent on Christmas. There’s cold wet weather (in the UK anyway) and short days, not much daylight and people begin to feel a bit miserable.

The truth is that Blue Monday was made up! There’s no science or evidence behind it. So you can choose to believe what you want to believe about the day! …

5 Ways to Switch Off over Christmas
5 Ways to Switch Off over Christmas

Not all of us get oodles of holiday time over Christmas. For some of us it’s just the Bank Holidays and work pretty much continues throughout. So how do we find ways to switch off over Christmas when it seems such a busy time?

Regardless of how many days off you have, the Christmas season is a time to switch off — properly! It’s the middle of winter, energy is low, and the Christmas break is the closest our fast-paced culture comes to hibernation.

Some business coaches will tell you to keep going while everyone…
