Relax as if your Self-Optimizing life depends on it.

When we start looking into how lucky we really are. We were given so much. Everything is a gift. There is a new bar around, new people, new worlds. Every person is also a gift.

In the accelerated pace of the new Techie World, we need to buy ourselves time for self-care. As millennials in constant self-optimization like we were running to become ourselves the next singularity instead of coding it, we forget that free time to relax is OK.

You know as a Developer, after a week of fighting infrastructure issues, buying that Udemy course at an eternal discount for yet another JS framework, a shiny new more expressive language, a Personal Finance course, or in moments of desperation: How to overcome approach anxiety with woman?. After that German class you were anxious to finish off with a good grade so you can start planning that dreamed Masters. After rushing your VISA paperwork. After crafting a poster to get new roommates so your house owner does not sell the house. After finally getting that new exchange student roommate to cook rice&beans properly!!. After convincing people you are not an Apple technician, but helping your lovely sister anyway. After you have to convince yourself to be an expert in whatever development area you need in hope to finish off that high-pointed ticket before Friday and before your Impostor Syndrome kicks in again. You know at that time that is the moment to get out and relax, to connect with people and treat that loneliness that we sometimes proudly hide.

Go to that birthday party, met that interesting couple that is figuring out how to live in this new slower-than-london country, investing in crypto and at the same time looking into how to use blockchain for social ventures. Connect them with the people they really need. Hear them tell you how they met in Mozambique at a time where that government decided to buy pretty stupid Warships instead of investing wisely. Hear them tell you how nice Costa Rica as a country is, with very good decisions and trends in education and healthcare. “No more 4 hours commuting every day if I can work 2–3 days from home”. “My child and wife time is far more valuable”. Hear those successful scholarships, these journeys and these ideas of improving our government websites to look how they are supposed to be. Seriously, paying my taxes shouldn’t be this hard.

Then you can visit that new interesting friend and have a look at the new drinks.

Something was on fire that night! (Video by Author). Bar Chupitos, La Cali

But don’t hope for everything to be a success, you know, no night is perfect and a hoped concert might be canceled by a sudden rush of the local Municipality to close another bar for whatever reasons. Yet good-hearted and hardworking people will always found a way to get the relaxing time they certainly deserve. A few dozens of supporting friends and you would be surprised for what they are able to craft.

The power of the community.

No plans for Sunday, don’t worry you can repeat, just remember, Relax! and DO NOT optimize your free time. Actually, do it.
