Exploratory Data Analysis of Indian-Startup-Funding

1.0 Introduction

Ideas, creativity, and execution are essential for a start-up to flourish. But are they enough? Investors provide start-ups and other entrepreneurial ventures with the capital---popularly known as "funding"---to think big, grow rich, and leave a lasting impact.

In this project, I am going to analyse funding received by start-ups in India from 2018 to 2021.

1.1 Scenario

Azubi Africa is trying to venture into the Indian start-up ecosystem. As the data experts of the company, team nice is to investigate the ecosystem and propose the best course of action.

1.2 Data Overview

You will find the data for each year of funding in a separate csv file in the dataset provided. After the cleaning process, here are the column names and description:

Column Names and Description

2.0 Hypothesis and questions

Here, we come up with an assumption about the data and ask relevant questions.

2.1 Hypothesis

There are no exact key factors that correlate with the exact amount of funding contributed by the investors.

2.2 Questions

1. Which company has the highest amount of funds?

2. Which location has the minimum startup funds?

3. In which sector has the top 10 investors.

4. How much did the investors contribute in Delhi and Mumbai?

5. How many companies received an amount greater than or equal to the average amount?

Univariate Analysis

Categorical Features

The above graph shows us that some locations like Mumbai attract more investors than others.

Most investments are in the Seed stage.

Now let’s look at our Numerical Features to get a better understanding.

Numerical features

Looking at the graph on the right, companies founded just before 2020 have attracted the most investors.

Multivariate Analysis

The year founded and amount of funding received have a weak relationship with each another or they have a weak correlation.

Questions

To get more insights, we must ask the right questions.

Conclusion

With that, we have done some exploratory analysis and answered the most relevant questions. We have also found some interesting insights in the Indian Startup industry in terms of headquarters, sector, etc. Further analysis can be made by combining this data with external knowledge about the startup ecosystem in India, which can lead to even better insights and trends.
