3 Things That Happen When You Allow Yourself to Dream

Let’s dream a little more in 2014.

1] You free yourself from the constraints of reality.

This is powerful, because even for a little while, you’re immersed into a life of what could be. Let’s face it, reality can suck a lot, so we owe it to ourselves to imagine something new, even if it’s all just make-believe.

Imagine a life where you aren’t miserable at work in a cubicle all day. Think of a moment where you feel like you’re genuinely living a fulfilling life, whatever it is you choose to do. Realize how badly you want it.

Wonderful things begin to happen when you decide to just go for it. So break the chains of reality, even if for a few minutes, even if it feels all lofty and wishy-washy, and enjoy the alternate reality you’ve dreamt for yourself. Take these thoughts and explore. Create new avenues of experience and opportunity for yourself. Stop worrying about what you don’t have, and take advantage of what you DO have.

Feeling scared? Good. You’re on the right track.

2] You resist your dreams at first, but with a little bit of courage, the resistance breaks.

Allow yourself to be fully immersed in your dreams. Let the sensation take over. Don’t over-analyze anything. Forego any logic. Remember how gratifying it feels, and internalize it. Realize you can continue to feel this way if you choose to. Let the “what ifs” turn into the “why nots”. Only then should you start making practical, focused, specific, step-by-step goals and stick to them. What was once just a dream can now be a reality.

Warning: if you’re not willing to commit to it for the long haul, perhaps it’s time to re-evaluate that dream. Achieving dreams aren’t meant to be easy, but they are meant to be enjoyable. If you find yourself consistently miserable, assess why and decide whether to keep going or to stop.

3] You realize that your dreams are not as farfetched as you think.

Take it one day at a time. Whatever your dreams are, commit to it every day. Don’t let people discourage you from fulfilling your passion. Stay consistent with your goals and be open to change. Constantly evaluate your goals and realize that they will evolve. Welcome this transformation, and don’t interpret it as a sign of failure, but as a sign of growth. In order to achieve your dreams, you must be self-catalyzing. So don’t hold yourself back. Your dreams await!
