Story

After the first Halo Wars, the crew of the Spirit of Fire entered cryosleep to take their journey across the stars. Now, 28 years later, the ship arrives at the Ark (a Forerunner installation capable of creating Halo rings). Atriox, leader of the Banished, has taken control of the Ark, and it’s up to the crew of the Spirit of Fire to take it back.

Gameplay

Like the original Halo Wars, Halo Wars 2 is a real-time strategy game where you play the role of battlefield commander. You arrange and direct units to fight the Banished.

Most missions have you establish and develop a base. Bases are used to collect resources, order new units, and purchase upgrades. You have to decide what you invest in and how you build your army to best take down the Banished, before they take you down.

There are several game modes besides the campaign. They all play basically the same, but with different objectives, such as capturing territory or eliminating the enemy army.

My Thoughts

I’m not very good at strategy games, but I do enjoy them, and one set in the Halo universe is a recipe for success. The game was fun, even if I did get beaten more often than not.

The story was pretty basic and didn’t end on a satisfying note, but it really was just an excuse to get back into the battle.

My Rating: 4/5
