Living a hundred years is not a myth, as there are people who have achieved this landmark age in the history of human existence. However, living a hundred years is not guaranteed, and there are no absolute steps to how such longevity can be achieved. Nevertheless, there are some tenets and principles that one can imbibe and apply in his/her lifestyle to increase his/her chances of living a hundred years. This article outlines some of the steps that can be taken to live a healthy, long life.

1. Exercise
Physical exercise should be an essential component of an individual's daily routine. A sedentary lifestyle is associated with several health implications, and it increases the risk of chronic diseases such as obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases. Therefore, it is essential to keep the body active and ensure that at least 30 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise is performed daily.

2. Healthy nutrition
A healthy diet is a vital determinant of one's health status. Eating nutrient-rich foods, fruits, and vegetables, as well as maintaining a balanced diet, is skillful nutrition habits to cultivate. It is best to avoid consumption of processed and refined foods, sugary drinks, and excessive salt intake. Instead of consuming sugary drinks, it is wise to take water, which promotes hydration, helps to maintain a healthy weight, and reduces the risk of obesity and related health conditions.

3. Get enough sleep
Sleep is essential for the rejuvenation of the body, and it is also a determinant of one's health status. It is recommended that adults should sleep for at least 7-8 hours daily. Lack of adequate sleep has been linked to many chronic diseases and makes it difficult for the body to cope with daily life demands.

4. Manage stress
Stress management is crucial for mental and physical well-being. Chronic stress has been linked with many chronic diseases, including cardiovascular diseases, obesity, and diabetes. Therefore, regular relaxation, meditation, or breathing exercises should be included in the daily routine to reduce stress levels.

5. Maintain social connections
Having a supportive social network is beneficial for mental and physical health. Engaging in social activities and events helps to build connections, provide emotional support, and enhance mood.

Conclusion
Living a long, healthy life requires a multifaceted approach. Adherence to healthy lifestyle choices such as exercise, healthy nutrition, adequate sleep, stress management, and maintaining social connections can potentially determine the likelihood of achieving a hundred years. However, there is no guarantee of living up to a hundred years, and it is essential not to obsess over aging. Instead, focus on living a healthy lifestyle and enjoying each day as it comes.
