Newsroom Pick- WJAR

The newsroom of my choice is WJAR in Rhode Island. This NBC affiliate station is located right outside Providence in the town of Cranston and is owned by Sinclair Broadcast Television Group. The station covers all over Rhode Island and Bristol County, Massachusetts. They have a morning show from 4:30–7am, a noon show, and several evening shows ranging from 5pm-11pm during weekdays and morning and evening shows during the weekend.

One question I would ask is if there is a system on how content gets put on the newsrooms news app. Do the reporters write their own stories or do the media staff take the broadcast stories and rewrite them? Do the stories get put on the app before the show or after? What is the breaking news policy?

Their twitter account is very active, the newsroom account tweets the link to all their stories on the app and retweets all their anchors and reporters tweets when it regards to stories and breaking news. I feel that Twitter is the account they are most active on and their app is very active, I think they could be more active on Instagram. I like how the reporters and anchors use the stations Instagram stories to give a blurb about their stories or the weather anchors give updates on what the forecast will be for the day. I like this because you can see there is a real person that is sending the information out.

I chose this station because I interned there this summer. I made many connections with the reporters and production staff. I learned how the station operates on a daily basis with how they produce their shows, but I don’t know how their media content is operated which is something that interests me.
