A Friendly Reminder
It’s finals week and last night I woke up because I had broken out in stress hives. Something that hadn’t happened to me in over a year. I’m sure my amount of stress isn’t unlike any of my fellow college students and so I’ve decided to write some friendly reminders:
it’s okay to not get all A’s:
Yes, A’s are always ideal, it has been programed into our brains that we need A’s or else we are failures. Well guess what! C’s are average and so anything above that is incredible. Even getting a C is great!! D’s aren’t ideal but hey! in most classes that’s considered passing. As long as you tried your hardest and did your best there is literally no reason to stress just because you didn’t get an A.
you need sleep:
All throughout the semester/school year/time spent on Earth it is hard to actually prioritize sleep. It becomes 1 am and you still have this exam that you feel you need to study for tomorrow. Well, you’re not going to do so hot when you’re yawning every 15 seconds and you can’t remember anything because all your brain can focus on is that gravity somehow got heavier today. Study as much as you can and then get a good 6–7 hours of sleep so that your brain has the proper amount of time to absorb the information. You’ll be so thankful that you spent that extra hour sleeping instead of studying.
eat!!!!
Yes, it happens to the best of us; we get too busy and totally forget that we haven’t eaten in 13 hours and then suddenly we are wondering why we are about to pass out. If you have to, bring a whole bunch of snacks to school/work/where-ever with you and set a reminder telling you to eat one. Make sure you’re eating, it will make focusing and finals so much more bearable.
be kind to yourself:
You know how when your friend bombs a test and you tell them it’s fine and it’s nothing to worry about because it’s just one test? Well then why when you bomb one test, it’s the end of the world. It’s because we put so much pressure on ourselves and it’s unfair. It’s okay to do poorly every once in awhile. You’re fine. You’ll bounce back, use nice words with yourself and treat yourself how you would treat your best friend.
Finals are tough. It’s that time of the semester where every night you want to break down and cry, or hide under your blankets until you feel safe again. But it’s also that time of the semester where you literally have no free time to do so. It’s okay, it’s a week, two max. You’ll get through it & then it’ll be break and you can sleep until your anxiety has crawled back into the cave it came out of.
And some end of post tips: take a bath/hot shower, eat some comfort foods, and watch your favorite tv show/movie or read your favorite book and calm down. It’ll be okay. You’ll be okay.
