I also tried different doses of mushrooms this past year, after almost 20 years since using them recreationally. What I most learned from these experiences was the importance of setting an intention, which helped to avoid any anxiety based side effects. I was going through a challenging time, and I was hoping to find some answers, so I took my first dose with that intention and it was absolutely perfect! Got the answers I was looking for and more. (that first dose was 0.5g followed by another 0.5g once I felt safe that I would be ok).

The next time I took another 0.5g, but this time was with friends in a public setting. Was a completely different experience. Having more people around made me way more anxious, and going in without a specific intention made it worst. I just remember hoping for it to be over soon and got very little positives from the experience.

Had some other successful experiences after that, but the contrast of those two really demonstrated the importance of setting and intention, something I highly recommend to anyone trying for the first time.
