In studies conducted in 2010, it was first determined that there was a prehistoric mega lake in the Sahara Desert. This lake was discovered approximately 250 thousand years ago.
In the studies carried out, a cow picture was revealed on the rock in one of the driest regions of the Sahara Desert!
More than one cow figure was found in these figures carved on the rocks. A human figure holding a milk jug was also noticed. It indicates that people living in this region used to breed cows!
The drawings found also include people, antelopes, elephants and giraffes.
Thanks to the discoveries made, it has been seen that the Sahara Desert was not always as it is today, but that thousands of years ago it had water resources and a climate in which animals and people lived.
Approximately 5 thousand to 15 thousand years ago, Africa was fed by summer monsoon rains throughout the continent as a result of periodic changes in the orbit of the Sun and the Earth.
Monsoon rains caused the formation of fresh water lakes, making the region, which is today a desert, suitable for life. But when the rainy season ended, the area was completely covered with sand.
People and animals migrated to the banks of the Nile River to survive.
