Yoroi, the light weight Cardano wallet, derives its name from the incredibly ornate ancient armor worn by Japanese samurai. The armor was a combination of iron and leather exquisitely constructed over nearly a year. This article explores some of the security centered features, and core technologies, behind the modern armor designed for your web browser and ADA funds.

There are a number of browser based wallets for both Cardano and other cryptocurrencies. Some browser based wallets are websites that you have to access on the public Internet, while other wallets are actually extensions that you can install on your browser.

As of Yoroi 1.3.4 we now have a feature to import your “Daedalus Master Key” into Yoroi. There is a lot of misconception about this feature so let’s spend some time explaining what this feature is and how it works.

What problem are we trying to solve?

Imagine the following scenario:

  1. User has Daedalus installed on their computer
  2. They forgot the recovery phrase for their wallet
  3. They remember the password for their wallet
  4. Daedalus fails to open on their computer

How do you recover your funds?

If you still had the recovery phrase, you could migrate to Yoroi just as in this video or recover your Daedalus…

If you have recently spent time scrolling around the various Cardano social media platforms, you’ve probably heard of the changes to the Cardano roadmap and on cardanoroadmap.com. According to IOHK, the technical engineering company responsible for developing Cardano, they “will be launching an exciting new roadmap which showcases the Cardano 2020 vision …”. As we all excitedly await the IOHK Summit on April 17th and 18th — this change means that EMURGO’s Sebastien Guillemot’s Cardano video updates will no longer be posted on cardanoroadmap.com.

As R&D Engineering Lead at EMURGO, Cardano’s commercial arm, Sebastien’s deep dive monthly…

Yoroi now allows users to save their own custom CSS configurations to a persistent local storage space. In other words, this will enable you to create custom themes for your Yoroi wallet and allow you to save them. Furthermore, your style changes are stored locally in such a way that they will not break future updates to Yoroi.

Of course, if, in the future, developers add a new stylistic element to the wallet then you will likely have to edit the CSS for that element to match your custom theme. …

Cardano — the first peer reviewed third generation blockchain — is one of the few cryptocurrencies aiming to serve underdeveloped nations by banking the unbanked. To that end, Cardano has a vision for developments in Africa and EMURGO, as the official commercial arm of Cardano, will help drive Cardano’s success in Africa. Along those lines, a key use case for blockchain is in the supply chain industry and Cardano can penetrate the African market for betterment of the society. …

The Cardano blockchain is the first peer-reviewed third-generation decentralized public blockchain and cryptocurrency project, which is fully open source. Cardano is developing a third-generation smart contract platform which seeks to deliver more advanced features than any protocol previously developed. While IOHK is focused on the technical development of the Cardano platform, EMURGO drives the adoption of Cardano and adds value to ADA holders by building, investing in and advising projects and organizations seeking to implement the Cardano blockchain into their ecosystem. …
