YC recommends founders divide 10% equity between the first 10 employees. My 45,000 only represent 0.25%, as supposed to the 1% I should have gotten according to YC!

This statement presupposes that the founders have to divide the equity equally. It’d be plausible for employee #1 to get 4%, #2 to get 3% and so on. Also, in most early stage situations, equity as a function of total compensation is usually negotiable.
