Context Aware Computing- The Next Gen Paradigm
Seems like everywhere you turn, you hear people talking about context aware computing or depending on your groups, you might have not heard yet. Well, context aware computing (CAC) will make a major impact on how people do business now and in the future. According to MarketsandMarkets, context aware computing market is expected to be $119.90 billion market by 2018, at an estimated CAGR of 35.2% from growth year 2013 to 2018.
Context aware computing helps people in making faster decisions. It is a style of computing where systems are aware of situation and environmental information about people, places and things to serve immediate needs and proactively offer valuable situation aware, usable content. Specialized software captures, stores and analyses data, sending it over the network to provide context on the end device.Context aware computing retrieves data based on your likes, dislikes and what you do during the day, where you are going etc. It is used to make data more relevant to the user. CAC is not a single technology, but a concept of technology comprising of cloud, mobile and big data.
CAC solution are allowing companies to better connect with customers resulting in increased sales. Today leading companies like Google, Apple , CISCO are exploring and experimenting with context aware solutions, that can help companies connect better with their customers.
Context Aware Computing is based on four graphs
The interest based graph
Your tastes and preferences are largely organized around the subjects that tend to correlate with one another. Its also about the overlaps in taste between individuals whose lives closely resemble to your own. For now such application are really narrow. Companies as such Amazon, are capable of predicting, what other books you might want to read based on your earlier search or interest. Food based applications can also suggest you restaurants based on your earlier preferences, likes and dislikes and reviews of the restaurants you have been to in the past.
The social graph
This data set shows how you connect to other people and how they are connected to one another. It also reveals the nature and emotional relevance of those connections. This tries and shows what makes them similar to other people and then accordingly suggest him the people he can meet in a place.
The personal graph
This is the set of data relating to the person’s core belief, core values and personality. The personal graph is difficult to design and underdeveloped. For example, some sites, make their users fill out a questionnaire consisting of their beliefs and and other related personal information. Users are reluctant to share this information online due to privacy concerns. There is a need to entirely create new solutions in order to reach the potential graph.
The behavior based graph
Its easy for data to depict what you actually do then what you claim to do. Travel sites can use this to send appropriate deals to their customers. Sometimes, you tell your friends on how you would love to visit a tropical country. But the site knows that every time you start with looking for packages to visit tropical country, you end up booking deals to visit European countries. This type of context aware computing will help businesses serve their customers, keeping in mind their preferences and likes .
The real potential about contextual computing isn’t just about graphs. Its the connection that resonates between them, which get tailored to different kinds of experiences. Early entrants like Google now, Google glass , Apple’s Siri are just beginning to experiment with this technology.
At airports, using contextual computing if there is a security breach ,the nearest security person will be notified of it within seconds and the issue can be resolved. This will also help increase the productivity of the airport staff.
Though people are still skeptical over sharing their social graph, it is said that in a few years, that is going to change. We will see boundaries breakdown and people eager to share their personal information so that they can be served better.
