I don’t like these t-shirts anymore than you do. There is nothing amusing or glamorous about Russia’s so-called-democracy. I hate the t-shirts but not the people wearing them.

I agree with the comment from Ed Smith about these guys and that “these t-shirts have nothing to do with the wished for Russification of American society and culture. They’re snarky expressions of anger and resentment at a Democrat party that they believe, with good reason, despises them.”

It is easy to vilify them as being ignorant, small-minded, and perhaps racist. That is much, much easier than hearing their story, understanding the road that brought them to this moment in history, and having compassion for them.

The divisiveness in your article only galvanizes people like these guys and makes them dig in their heels. Your views are full of assumptions and no sources. Go read Strangers In Their Own Land, by Arlie Russell Hochschild and you will understand where these guys are coming from.
