It’s not unusual to be loved by anyone. Unless you’re Alexander Pechtold, leader of D66. Then pretty much everyone hates your guts.

Today marked the first workday after the election council published the list of parties that will enter the general election, and so now shit is starting to get real. Ultra-right hairbrain Geert Wilders of the PVV took a big swing at the aforementioned Pechtold today by tweeting a photoshopped image of Pechtold among a group of jolly jihadis.

(this is not an actual photo of Pechtold).

As Wilders knows full well, there are quite a lot of people, especially among his followers, that already hate Pechtold and are well prepared to believe this kind of crap. Not for the first time did angry yokels tweet about the purges that were sure to follow after the election, because, well, some people will actually believe anything.

Pechtold at first responded in kind by referencing the attendance of neonazi’s at rallies Wilders attended, something that did in fact happen. However, he soon followed up with a more lengthy Facebook post about how Wilders had crossed a line and blah blah blah. In a rare display of solidarity slash political opportunism Lodewijk Asscher of the PvdA endorsed Pechtold’s statement.

Wilders, of course, couldn’t keep silent and rejoined by calling Pechtold a dramaqueen, because why not.

Meanwhile, tweed-wearing sack of shit Thierry Baudet of the FvD once again proved he’s a stupid toddler that can’t be left alone for too long, when he interrupted a lecture at the University of Tilburg by screaming about the left wing bias of said University. Baudet then proceeded to promise he’d rid the academic world of the scourge of left-leaning professors, as if purging universities has never been a bad idea.

Things got well and truly weird however when later today someone tweeted a video of a road sign usually designated for traffic info. In what I can only assume is a first in Dutch political history, Baudet’s party has commandeered one of these monstrosities and is using it to spread its campaign message. Welcome to the fucking circus, day one.
