WELCOME TO UHAMKA!

University of Muhammadiyah Prof. DR. HAMKA (referred to as UHAMKA) is one of the private universities owned by Muhammadiyah located in Jakarta. As one of Muhammadiyah`’`s movements in education, UHAMKA is an Islamic university that implements the Al-Quran, As-Sunnah, Pancasila and the 1945 Constitution. UHAMKA also carries out the catur dharma Muhammadiyah universities involving obligations in education, research, community service, and Al Islam and Ke-Muhammadiyahan.

Muhammadiyah University Prof. Dr Hamka pays special attention to research activities and encourages lecturers and students to carry out and develop various research oriented to meet the needs of the nation.

UHAMKA Establishment History

UHAMKA was first established as the Muhammadiyah Institute of Teacher Training and Education (IKIP) Jakarta with the initial name Teacher Education College (PTPG). PTPG was inaugurated on 25 Rabiul Awal 1377 H / November 18th, 1957, with the founders Also Sosroatmodjo (Chairman) and HS Prodjokusumo (Secretary). Aligned with the government policy, in 1958 PTPG was transformed into the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) which was affiliated with the University of Muhammadiyah Jakarta (UMJ). In the same year, FKIP was assigned by the Ministry of Religious Education to educate its employees to become qualified PGA teachers.

In 1965, FKIP UMJ became IKIP Muhammadiyah Jakarta (IKIP-MJ). Furthermore, from 1990 to 1997, IKIP-MJ was chosen to organize an Elementary School Teacher Education Program (PGSD). IKIP Muhammadiyah Jakarta was converted into a university that was proposed by Prof. Drs. H. Sudarno Sinduwiryo, M.Ed. It was officially registered under the Decree of the Director General of DIKTI Depdikbud №138/DIKTI/Kep/1997, May 30th, 1997. In 2007, IKIP-MJ changed its name to UHAMKA and it was appointed to organize PGSD for an undergraduate program and the Distance Learning Program (PJJ). In the following years, UHAMKA was also responsible for carrying out the Teacher Certification Program and Teacher Professional Education.
