Letter to The Beloved Set to Music?
Yes, that’s right. Coming out of the psychological, creative, spiritual and metaphysical closet means letting myself be seen on many levels. If you didn’t know I’m not only a writer but a singer and songwriter too. And because Letter to The Beloved (my pinned post if you haven’t yet read it) is so raw and real and different, the music I created for it reflects this.
The music titled, InHer Space, is rhythmic, and tribal, with a repetitive, hypnotic pattern. It has discordant harmonies and spacey guitar and was written after watching a documentary on Fela Kuti and being inspired by his writing process.
It’s supported by haunting vocals — an Arabic-inspired lament that wails in the background. If you enjoyed the prose poem, I hope you enjoy listening to excerpts of it set to music. Listen on headphones to get the full effect.
