Assessment of a candidate by response time is slightly flawed. You have no idea what other stuff that person has going on. They might have other work (they may be fully employed elsewhere, fighting fires for someone else), on vacation, away that night etc.

While understanding their ability to write and reason in email makes sense, expecting short turn around times (hours I assume rather than a day or so) is difficult. You may well lose competent candidates because that was the weekend they went away (may be to a personal development event) , and they have no requirement or reason to be at your call when your not paying them yet.
