Siri and its Limitations for Developers
iOS 10 will be released very soon, and with it, the possibility for developers to integrate their apps with Siri. The thing is, some of you may get disappointed because some of your favorite apps aren’t integrated with Siri. And here’s the question, why?
Why some apps will not be integrated with Siri from the beginning?
SiriKit (the development kit offered by Apple) can only be integrated in some specific cases. Those cases are called domains. There’re not that many domains right now, because of that, a lot of developers can’t integrate their apps with Siri.
This is the list of domains that SiriKit supports for now:
- VoIP Calling
- Ride booking
- CarPlay (automotive vendors only)
- Restaurant reservations (requires additional support from Apple)
Every domain also has a limited number of functions from where developers can choose.
What will happen in the future?
For now, the possibility to integrate apps with Siri is limited. This said, Apple will keep adding more domains and functions so developers can integrate their apps with Siri on future iOS updates (hopefully soon).
