What the F*** is Product Management anyway?

A Product is anything we sell to meet someone's needs. All successful products (from the first iPhone to the latest update of Airbnb’s platform) have three “Fits” in common:

  1. There is (almost) no gap between what users WANT to do and what they CAN do with the product (Problem-Solution Fit).
Framework showing how we guide improvement initiatives by simoultaneously including desired use cases in the product and reducing unwanted features
Provocation: How might we Add and Improve use cases within our Audience problem space while removing and reducing those outside of it?

2. Access to the product generates enough funds to sustain its production, distribution, and evolution while still leaving margin for customer value surplus (Product-Market Fit).

Provocation: How do we add valuable use cases to justify prices that can support business growth while giving the user a wide sense of “bang for their buck”?

3. There is an ecosystem of connected content pulling new users through engagement, conversion, and delight (Content-Context Fit) Note that the right content at the wrong time may destroy value, we need to show the right content at the right time to trigger the right behavior.
