California’s famous vineyards have long produced world class wines, providing the foundation for wine’s fast growing national popularity for generations, and the arrival of imports from the renowned Italian winemakers Monte Due Torri signals an audacious new upshift in this very busy marketplace.

One of the great organic winemakers in Lazio, Italy, Monte Due Torri specializes in painstakingly crafted, exquisite wines. Simple yet profound, these deeply satisfying red, white and sparkling vintages are certain to make a significant impact among California’s wine aficionados. The brands combination of first- rate product and surprisingly affordable price range guarantee status as a strong contender for the top range of popularity.

Monte Due Torri’s start was humble, the culmination of a dream that began in the ancient countryside 17 miles outside of Rome back in the 1950s when the Amici family first established the vineyard. Popular at first in Rome and then throughout the Italy and Europe, Monte Due Torri’s reputation for excellence grew steadily. The Amici estate, which also produces olive oil, balsamic vinegar, honey and vegetables, always focused on a simple, appealing approach — to ensure their customers the finest hospitality and sensational gastronomic experience, tasting the finest wines paired with delectable local cuisine in a beautiful setting.

Over the years, the winery went from a small one 1000 square meter husband-and-wife operation to a 60 employee company spread across more than 65 acres. By the mid-90’s, when Monte Due Torri launched their agriturismo restaurant, the estate became a popular destination for fine dining and marvelous wines. In 2003 the company expanded further, creating, Il Borgo, a 45 acre center where they process their grapes, olives, and grain, all lovingly produced in a traditional manner which earned the company Italy’s official Organic Production certification in 2012.

Now operated by a third generation of the Amici family, their reach across the globe to California was inevitable and Monte Due Torri is a very welcome addition to Southern California’s cellars, alongside other such noble Italian imports as Barolo, Brunello Di Montalcino, Barbaresco and Nebbiolo.

Their wonderful red Petit Verdot Monte Due Torri is fast becoming a particular favorite in the Golden State, introduced to Hollywood’s most discriminating connoisseurs by the esteemed luxury catering company Crateful at their lavish, high end events. Made from a variety of grape used principally used in classic Bordeaux blends, Petit Verdot ripens much later than the other varieties in Bordeaux, and when it does, it adds tannin, color and flavor, in ideal amounts, to the blend. The result is striking, a wonderful single varietal in the classic Bordeaux style.

“It’s really hard for any wine to come into California and succeed,” Crateful’s co-founder Emanuele Ponzo said. “The market is huge, but Monte Due Torri’s impressive wine is of the highest quality and when you compare that excellence and very reasonable price to competitors, there is no contest. This delicious Petit Verdot is sure to make an impact and gain a strong foothold in the California market — it’s that good.”
