I was writing about naming your SaaS company and came to the same conclusion. Values mitigate trends as they persist when products come and go. 
Facebook’s core mission of connecting people hasn’t changed even though the platform has evolved and added new products. Car Phone Warehouse on the other hand possibly didn’t consider values in their naming process :P
