Game of Thrones Power Rankings S6E9 “Battle of the Bastards”
- Daenarys Stormborn (Last Week: 4): She finally rode Drogon into battle while also commanding Rhaegal and Viserion, smashing the Harpy’s blockade and capturing their ships to set up her move to Westeros. And she has an ally (albeit one she’s never met) who’s already began his trek over there in Varys.
- The Dragons (NR): Not only did they kick ass and take names, but the CGI used to create them was fantastic. And they are by far the greatest weapons in the world. Now can they harm the White Walkers (most likely, yes)?
- Sansa Stark (NR): She’s back at Winterfell, and not as a hostage, for the first time since season 1. She also extracted vengeance for her family on the Bolton’s and herself on Ramsey and may have had the kill of the season by sending his own dogs on him. But why didn’t she tell Jon that Littlefinger and his knights of the Vale were coming? And she now owes lord Baelish a debt for saving her Army.
- Petyr Baelish (NR): He saved the day riding in and smashing the Bolton Army after they had Jon encircled. And while he never could have Caitlyn, he now has a (very creepy) chance with her daughter and controls the most in-tact army left in the North.
- Yara Greyjoy (NR): Yara beat her Uncle to Mereen and was able to convince Daenarys to ally with her instead of her uncle. She’s in a good position to eventually take back her father’s seastone chair.
- Jon Snow (NR): He took back Winterfell for his family, even if he doesn’t have the name. But it wasn’t a great episode for him. He fell right into Ramsay’s trap only to be saved at the last minute by the Knights of the Vale. His blunder almost cost him not only his life, but any chance of retaking Winterfell. He did redeem himself in his one-on-one encounter with Ramsay, stopping point blank arrrows with a shield and then pummeling his face in.
- Tyrion Lannister (NR): He was not punished for his plan gone awry and actually played a role in planning Daenerys dramatic takedown of the Harpys. He also dressed down Theon and brokered an allience with Yara.
- Ser Davos Seaworth: He survived the battle and discovered a secret regarding Melissandre’s shenanigans involving Shereen. He’ll likely take action in the next episode.
- Iwan Rheon (NR): The actor had a formidable challenge of portraying the psychotic Ramsay Bolton in the show and much like Jack Gleeson’s Joffrey Baratheon, he made us loathe the character, putting him in a very unenviable position where he’d be universally hated by the fanbase. His Ramsay was cruel, but a delight to watch on screen, and the cadence of his speech would make you question if what he was saying truly was that bad if you were unable to comprehend the terrible words he spewed forth. A perfect villain, he also provided one of the best scenes from “Game of Thrones, the Musical.”
- Tormund Giantsbane (NR): He survived the battle of the Winterfell, like Davos. His friendship with Jon Snow may be the strongest in the show, as it’s grown from being enemies to two who will fight and die for each other. He has many flaws, but he’s also wise enough to admit his shortcomings.
Death of the Week
Rickon Stark. Wun-Wun’s death was more tragic to the viewers, as we had a stronger connection with him, but Rickon’s is more significant in the action that will follow. He was the last known legitimate surviving son of Eddard Stark, meaning the lineage of the main family on the show is now in danger.
