I had a similar revelations after reading Milton’s Areopagitica on the freedom of the press and his argument (even in the 1600s!) that to limit information to one curated view hinders the development of the richest merchandise — truth.
To failproof ourselves against selection bias in the material we ingest, a platform that serves up material playing the devil’s advocate seems like the way to go. However, have you considered that that lone just incorporates a diametrically opposing view into the bubble the reader is in? If one thinks the Earth is flat, an an rebuttal surfaces saying the Earth is round, there’s no richness in the discourse and the world fills up with bipartisan debates. The reader needs to be exposed to a spectrum of materials covering not only things she disagrees with, but also things she doesn’t care about or didn’t even know existed.
