What isn’t art?
Art isn’t a question.
It isn’t an answer.
It isn’t right.
It isn’t wrong.
It cannot be described with one word, one phrase, or one essay, making a case for one concrete definition of what art is.
It’s not hanging on a white wall. In an empty room. In an art museum.
Some would say art is something seen, heard, or comprehended.
But it can’t be understood in these sensible structures.
Just like how no individual can be fully understood. We can know what someone thinks by what they say. How they process what they hear by the their facial expressions.
But there is no way to know it all.
Because knowledge is never served whole.
Like human nature, art isn’t simple. It isn’t confined to the second dimension. Or even the third.
It can be felt across all dimensions.
So what isn’t art, really?
It isn’t life. But it is close.
Life is:
Not controlled.
Not certain.
Not predictable.
So what is art?
I say art is emotion.
Emotions are:
Not controlled,
Not certain,
Not predictable.
If you think it can be controlled, then that thought is also a feeling, and that feeling is true emotion.
And that is art.
