Visiting New York City soon? Everyone knows that to get a taste of New York architecture, a visit to the Chrysler Building and the Empire State Building are on the must-see list of the most beautiful architecture in NYC. However, there are a few other buildings that deserve shout-outs for being amazing. Don’t miss out on these 4 iconic buildings.

The American Radiator Building (Bryant Park Hotel)

This sleek and regal skyscraper built for the American Radiator Company was designed by John Howells and Raymond Hood and completed in 1924. Buttress-like extensions hearken back to the spires of a Gothic castle. The building’s Art Deco fascia and ornamentation are crafted of gold brick, while the rest of the building is made of black brick (the black is meant to represent coal, and the gold represents fire). This sophisticated structure is now also known as the Bryant Park Hotel. Located in midtown Manhattan at 40 West 40th Street, New York, NY, 10018.

The Gingerbread House

Made to resemble a cottage from an English fairy-tale, the house known colloquially as the Gingerbread House was designed by architect James Sarsfield Kennedy. This quaint, almost hobbit-like home built in the simple yet romantic style of the early 20th century Arts and Crafts movement features walls made of stacked stones that have a rough, rustic finish. Located at 8220 Narrows Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11209.

The Harlem Courthouse

The Harlem Courthouse was designed in the neo-Romanesque style by New York City architectural firm Thom & Wilson. The building was completed in 1893 and is notable for its four-faced clock and unusual combination of granite, brownstone, terracotta, and bluestone bricks. Visually appealing gables and ribbed archways adorn the facade, giving it more than a touch of old-world sensibility. Located at 170 E. 121st St. New York, NY 10035.

New York Public Library, Main Branch

Established in 1895, this stately and solidly constructed building is best known for its iconic marble sculptures of two lions– Fortitude and Patience– which “guard” its entrance. Towering columns and ornate reliefs on the building show clear signs of having been inspired by the classic Greek structure known as the Parthenon. The NYPL main branch is located in Manhattan at 476 Fifth Avenue (42nd St and Fifth Ave) New York, NY, 10018.
