Being a content creator in the exciting world of Web3 is something new…yet also familiar.

What is Web3?

As the third generation of the World Wide Web, Web3 is a collection of technologies and protocols that aim to decentralize the internet and give users more control over their online data and interactions. From blockchain-based networks and distributed ledgers to decentralized applications (dApps) and non-fungible tokens (NFTs), there are countless ways to get involved in Web3. My interest in Web3 lies solely in how we as creators can benefit from adding the blockchain as a destination for our content.

Sounds exciting, right? But before you jump in, it’s important to carefully consider whether or not now is the right time to add Web3 as another content destination. Here are a few things to think about:

Is Web3 right for you now?

Web3 is still in its early stages, and while it has the potential to revolutionize the way we interact online, it’s not the right fit for everyone at this time. If you’re an early adopter who’s excited about the potential of Web3 and is comfortable taking on the risks and uncertainties that come with new technologies, then now might be the perfect time to get involved. However, if you’re not sure if Web3 is right for you, it’s important to take your time and do your research before diving in.

In Plain English

As you go online to conduct research. As you listen to Web3 hosts on Spaces, Clubhouse, and Wisdom. As you scour the scores of podcasts and videos online, the abundance of information can feel overwhelming. What can you do to simplify your learning? Where can you find information that makes sense? In other words, who is speaking in plain English?

While the jargon and terminology can seem like a barrier to understanding. I encourage you to look for the folks who are speaking plainly about Web3. They’re out there. When you find one, ask them who else they recommend you learn from to expand your knowledge base. Typically folks who speak plainly know others who do the same. Like attracts like.

Are you ready to monetize?

Web3 has the potential to be a lucrative space, but it’s important to have realistic expectations and to understand that it’s still a developing technology. If you’re expecting to make a million dollars overnight, you may be setting yourself up for disappointment. Instead, focus on building a solid foundation and understanding of Web3 before attempting to monetize your efforts. The reality is the reward system for content creators on various blockchains is more like the change in the bottom of your pocket at the end of the day. Not much to begin with, but over time it can add up. I like to think of it as micro-monetization.

Are you comfortable with Web3?

Web3 is a complex and rapidly evolving space, and it’s important to be comfortable with the concepts and technologies involved before diving in. If you’re feeling uncertain or unsure, it’s perfectly okay to take your time and do your research before deciding to join. There’s no need to feel pressure to join right away.

Be mindful of who you’re listening to

There are so many people talking about Web3, and it’s important to be mindful of who you’re listening to and to be a little skeptical of anyone who claims that Web3 is the “next best thing since sliced bread” or that you’ll be able to make “magic internet money” overnight.

While Web3 does have a lot of potential, it’s important to approach it with a level head and to understand that it’s still in the early stages of development.

So, are you ready to join the Web3 revolution?

If you’re an early adopter who’s excited about the potential of this technology and is comfortable with the risks and uncertainties that come with it, now is the perfect time to get involved. With plenty of resources and people available to help guide you on your journey, you’ll be able to explore all that Web3 has to offer and potentially even monetize your efforts.
