Communicating and empathy are important, but technical communication is different than caring about someone’s feelings. Technical communication requires the ability to think abstractly and logically in great detail without reference to feeling, and say the blunt truth when necessary. There is also a place for empathy, but it should be subservient to the truth, otherwise people can die from a bad engineering solution. This form of communication is not restricted to males, both genders are quite capable. As such, empathetic communication should not be prioritized over the communication of technical truth. Those saying such communication is too masculine and consequently should be suppressed are themselves claiming gender differences.
